Despite the financial crisis, which hit Citi particularly hard in November when its share price halved in just four days, 2008 was a milestone for its commodities team. This is why Citi has retained its title of Energy Risk Manager of the Year for the second year. Citi’s commodities revenues for 2008 were more than 100% higher than in 2007 and it expanded its personnel to 250 from 200 in 2007 – particularly impressive given the bank’s overall reduction in headcount last year.
