As if one needed reminding, the precariousness of the economic recovery was recently underlined by two events. First, UK data showed GDP growth in the country had declined 0.5% in the fourth quarter of last year. The figure and strong fall were unexpected and while it may be partially revised upwards when fuller data is available, it reignited fears of a double-dip recession in the UK.
