Freight derivatives: GFI

In 2002 GFI Group made a pioneering agreement with ACM, a London shipbroker, offering hybrid voice and online trading of freight derivatives. The aim was to increase liquidity, enabling oil companies, ship owners and other users of shipping capacity to better manage volatile shipping costs.

ACM/GFI is a member of the Forward Freight Agreement Brokers' Association and is helping the association establish a clearing solution. In 2005 GFI linked its freight-trading platform to both Nymex and LCH
