The Calgary-based Natural Gas Exchange (NGX) has been something of a successstory in recent years. Trading figures for 2002 were up 41% on 2001 figures,and figures for 2003 were a further 44% up on 2002. The roots of the exchangedate back to 1993, when Canadian pipeline giant Westcoast Energy authorised thefunding to develop a natural gas trading platform.

By 2000, NGX had become a substantial exchange in the Canadian gas and electricitymarkets, and to support the increased need for exchange
