Deals of the Year: European Bank for Reconstruction & Development

In a deal that was the first of its kind in Romania, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) structured a €170 million (US$ 256.24 million) senior secured corporate loan for a €224.3 million (US$ 338 million) modernisation project at Turceni Power Plant, the largest lignite-fired power plant in Romania.

The loan covered the modernisation of one 330 megawatt (MW) generation unit at the power plant. The aim of the project was to upgrade the unit and put it back into operation
