US: Natural gas push not expected to affect prices
The US Government has refocused energy policy on reducing oil imports and increasing the use of domestic natural gas. In a speech last week, US President Barack Obama said that by 2025 he wanted to cut US oil imports to a third of the 11 million barrels per day imported in 2008, the year he was elected. In addition to energy efficiency strategies, Obama highlighted natural gas as a priority in transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy sources.
