18 EU states urged to implement energy law

The countries in question are Germany, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, the UK, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, Greece, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Luxembourg.

The directives aim to guarantee the opening up of the electricity and gas markets in the EU. They have allowed industrial energy consumers to choose their own supplier since July 1, 2004 and will do so for domestic customers from July 1, 2007, said the commission.
