European Commission to examine energy-sector competition

Companies and trade associations may have to supply information, documents or statements requested by the commission.

Among other things, the inquiry will examine reasons for recent energy price rises. It complements the commission’s monitoring of EU energy legislation, which is not going to schedule in some member states, as well as a detailed report on the energy market due at the end of 2005, says the EC.
