Switzerland adopts a 20% carbon reduction target

The government has outlined a range of measures to achieve this reduction including forcing all importers and producers of fossil fuels to offset one quarter of their carbon footprint by investing in reduction measures either in Switzerland or abroad from 2013.

Although not a member of the EU, Switzerland said it would increase the 20% emissions target to 30% in line with Europe depending on what is achieved at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen in December.
