Opposition to US climate change legislation gathers pace

The Senate is due to consider climate change legislation after the American Clean Energy and Security Act (also called the Waxman-Markey bill, after its co-creators) was passed by the House of Representatives on June 26, 2009. In its current form, the bill would establish a carbon cap-and-trade scheme, among other initiatives designed to promote greater energy efficiency, as well as the development of low-carbon alternatives.
