EPA issues GHG endangerment finding
The finding will initially only result in new emission standards for cars, but could pave the way for future regulation of heavy emitters in the energy sector, even if Congress fails to pass the cap-and-trade legislation currently being debated in the Senate.
EPA issued the final finding in response to a 2007 US Supreme Court decision that GHGs come under the Clean Air Act definition of air pollutants. It applies to emissions of six GHGs: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons
