Airlines face regulatory uncertainty in US-EU emissions standoff

The US Senate's influential Commerce Committee passed a bill this week that would severely complicate the European Union's (EU's) efforts to bring non-EU airlines into its Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The bill, approved by the committee on Tuesday, would potentially make it illegal for US airlines to comply with the ETS. Although the US aviation industry backed the bill, experts say it will create regulatory uncertainty for airlines until the US-EU standoff has been settled.
