Energy Risk USA: Official sheds light on Ferc manipulation sleuths

Ferc is looking closely at potential market manipulation

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) has deployed state-of-the-art technology and hired skilled staff members to monitor electricity and natural gas trading for evidence of market manipulation, a senior enforcement official told delegates at the Energy Risk USA conference in Houston on May 15.

The comments by David Applebaum, deputy director of the Division of Investigations in Ferc’s Office of Enforcement, come following a period in which the commission has dramatically stepped up
