US wind energy grows by 8300 MW in 2008

The AWEA warned, however, that towards the end of the year "financing for new projects and orders for turbine components slowed to a trickle", while job losses hit the wind turbine manufacturing sector.

"It is clear that the economic downturn has begun to take a serious toll on new wind development," said AWEA CEO Denise Bode in a statement. "Quick action in the [new US government's] stimulus bill is vital to restore the industry's momentum."
