At a press conference in New York, Pickens, 80, announced that his plan could potentially reduce the United States’ dependence on foreign oil by more than a third within 10 years.
Pickens noted that US dependency on foreign oil had now reached “an economic crisis point” with the nation looking overseas to secure 70% of its oil at an annual cost of $700 billion, more than four times the cost of the Iraq war.
