Didcot invests in UK biomass facility

A power station in the UK has begun the commercial operation of a new £3.5 million biomass facility, enabling it to provide enough renewable electricity for over 100,000 homes each year.

The new storage and blending facility is contained on the site of the existing power station, owned by energy company RWE npower. It will allow an increase in possible biomass use from 1% to 10%.

"The new investment could replace more than 300,000 tonnes of coal with biomass annually and avoid up to 700,000 tonnes
