A plan to link the three US electricity grids has cast a spotlight on long-running transmission issues impeding the development of the US renewable energy sector.
Akin to a roundabout or highway rotary system that controls traffic flow, the New Mexico-based Tres Amigas project aims to link the three primary US interconnections: the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Eastern Interconnection.
