Dutch-Norwegian power transmission link may spur electricity trading

ABB received the go-ahead in late December to proceed with building the NorNed project, a high-voltage direct-current transmission link connecting the Dutch and Norwegian power grids. Construction of the three-year project, originally agreed in 2000, starts this month.

ABB will receive $270 million under the deal struck with the two state-owned power-grid companies, Tennet in the Netherlands and Statnett in Norway. The 580-kilometre NorNed link will be the longest underwater high-voltage
