IPE puts back relaunch of power futures

The exchange delisted its first electricity futures contract in March 2002, due to its lack of liquidity. The IPE had introduced the instrument in March 2001 in response to the UK’s New Electricity Trading Arrangements.

“The timing is right to look at these contracts again, given that market participants are talking a lot about counterparty risk and clearing – cleared futures contracts are an obvious way of combating credit risk,” said IPE spokesman Jason LaBrooy.
