Powering consolidation

Grand plans to unite Europe's power spot markets in a single exchange have been put into motion by Leipzig-based European Energy Exchange (EEX) and Paris-headquartered Powernext.

The two exchanges have agreed to pool both their power spot and futures markets in a 50/50 joint venture, with the merged entity's spot trading to be based in Paris, and futures and clearing activities in Leipzig.
