After all the criticism, postponements and uncertainty, the UK's new electricity trading arrangements (Neta) were scheduled to start on March 27, as Energy Risk went to press.

Peter Hain, the UK minister for energy and competitiveness in Europe, confirmed on March 15 that Neta had been given its go-live date. Unless some catastrophic event befalls Neta in the meantime, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem), the UK energy regulator, says there can be no going back on the decision
