EC takes firm line on emission allowances
The European Commission (EC) has taken a firm line on carbon emissions reduction, slashing the emissions caps proposed by ten countries' draft national allocation plans (NAPs) by a total of 67 million tonnes (mt) of carbon dioxide (CO2), an overall cut of 7%.
NAPs set the limit on the total amount of CO2 that installations covered by the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) can emit. EU member states are currently in the process of submitting their draft NAPs for Phase II of the EU
