There has been much debate over recent months, particularly following the UN climate change conference in Cancún in December 2010, about ways in which the international community can rapidly expand greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation efforts and how the private sector needs to play a pivotal role in providing the necessary capital to do this. 

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has been crucial to reducing GHG emissions and facilitating technology transfer from developed to developing countries
