Renewable energy in Europe is facing some extremely tough challenges in the wake of the financial crisis and the dire straits for eurozone debt. Making up 11.6% of power generation in Europe according to the most recent 2009 European Commission data, renewable power needs to grow by 5% a year in order to hit the European Union’s (EU’s) binding target of 20% of electricity to come from renewables by 2020.
